Mayor says Environment Assessment Legislation does not consider municipal boundaries. He's wrong.

Mayor Ryan January 20, 2021. "If the concern is about environmental impacts that don't respect municipal boundaries, I completely agree with that, and that's what we have environmental assessment legislation for. The environment assessment legislation does not consider municipal boundaries in any way, shape, or form."

FACT CHECK - Bill 197 Section 6 (passed in 2020) made changes to Ontario's Environmental Assessment Legislation that specifically consider municipal boundaries. It requires landfill proponents (such as Walker) to have their proposals approved by the host municipality and those municipalities within 3.5 km of a proposed landfill site.
